Chemical Parcel Tanker Chartering

IMO II stainless and coated parcel tankers of 10,000–50,000 dwt for chemicals, solvents and acids between regions. Deep-sea chemical parcel tanker chartering for methanol, glycols, aromatics, caustic soda, acids and other IMO II cargoes in parcels of 2,000 to 20,000 tonnes between the Gulf, India, Southeast Asia, the Mediterranean and Europe, on stainless and coated tonnage with the tank compatibility settled first.

Chemical parcel tankers of about 10,000 to 50,000 dwt carry many grades at once in segregated tanks, stainless steel for the aggressive and high-purity products, coated for the rest, with separate pumps and lines for each tank. The deep-sea trades run from the Gulf and India to Europe and the Far East, and from the United States and Southeast Asia into every consuming region, on liner-like schedules and on spot fixtures. The product decides the ship: caustic soda and acids need stainless, methanol and glycols can load in coated tanks, and the last three cargoes and the cleaning between them decide whether a tank can take the next parcel at all.

A parcel enquiry is fixed on the product and its specification, the quantity, the loading and discharge terminals with their manifold and shore-line arrangements, the laycan, the freight basis per tonne, and the charterer of record. We ask for those and for the product's previous-cargo requirements, then go to the operators whose ships and schedules fit. On the tonnage side we take open positions and Q88s from parcel operators and put them against the parcels on the board, with the operator's approval before any ship's name is used.

Questions charterers and owners ask

What is a parcel tanker?

A chemical tanker built to carry many different products at once, each in its own tank with its own pump and line. Parcels of a few thousand tonnes from different shippers share one voyage, which is what makes chemical freight economic between regions.

Stainless or coated: which does my cargo need?

Aggressive and high-purity products, such as acids, caustic soda and some solvents, need stainless steel tanks. Methanol, glycols, base oils and vegetable oils can load in coated tanks. We check the product against the ship's tank list and last cargoes before it is offered.

How is chemical freight quoted?

Per tonne for a parcel, on the terms of the operator's contract of affreightment or the spot fixture, with the loading and discharge terminals named. A quantity without named terminals cannot be priced.

What do you need from a parcel operator?

Tank list and coating, IMO class, the schedule or open position, the last three cargoes per tank, and a freight idea for a typical parcel. Positions go to desk-a005f1@in.laycandesk.com and you hear from us only when a parcel fits.
